How Fast Can You Type?
Sat, July 28, 2007 at 06:42AM I've been writing more and longer emails using my iPhone lately, and my speed has been surprising me. Sometimes I think it might actually rival my not-so-stellar full-size keyboarding.
Wanting to check my words-per-minute, I tried a few typing test websites. They were decent enough for their intended full-size purpose, but didn't play well enough to mention here. I was even toying with the idea of building my own iPhone-specific typing test.
As it turns out, a great solution already exists. The aptly named iPhoneTypingTest fits the bill and is easy to use. For those who get confused at how to "finish up" a form on the iPhone, this site will register completion either with the "Done" or the "Go" button at the bottom of your keypad form. My only quibble with it is that a few of the test texts are rather silly (not that other tests don't have silly sentences, but some of these use the word "iPhone" a lot and aren't a good sample), and that I do wish that all of the tests were significantly longer than they are. Only one sentence is a poor sample of your ability.
So how about the test results? I can get 26wpm routinely, and I hit over 30wpm once in a while. This is in portrait mode, using two finger technique. How about you? Wouldn't it be cool if someone was able to get to a benchmark 60wpm? It won't be me, but I'll bet that someone out there will be able to do it.
